English translation: The day started with a challenge crossing a large river. There was a bridge over but on the other side of the bridge where the summer trail was to go there was only a big snow cliff. So there was a need to use the imagination and hoist all the things up a rope, up the mountainside. It took time but we and our things got up. A couple of hundred meters from the cabin, a couple of hours after start-up was the first lunch.
Today we moved as the crow flies a total of 3km (less than 2 miles). The ice was too unsafe so we did not dare to follow the winter trail there. The summer trail was still too dangerous due to snow precipitation, so it was not possible to follow either. We had to walk back and forth where we were unsure to find out where we could go, off and on with the snowshoes every 100m. Sometimes too insecure with both sled and sack, then it was just to go back and forth and take one thing at a time. The water has been drained after the winter has come, so some ice remnants along the shore were the rescue for the day today. Had it not been for that, we would probably have spent even longer. Still large sections without ice, so became an incredibly tiring and small stage. Luckily we did not have to carry the sled too far, but we see that we are nearing the end of the sledding season.
Well ahead and tired on the other side of the water, we got cell service coverage and see that the weather forecast shows a yellow warning for torrential rain. Knowing that this snow becomes completely impossible to walk on with rain, we set up tents. Somewhat unsure if we could go that much further anyway as we are very exhausted.
The weather today has been absolutely fantastic. Although the terrain was difficult and we spent a lot of time, we had plenty of motivation for the day. Excited about what the next few days will give us. With a lot of rain and bad weather on the weather forecast, as well as a lot of climbing to the next cabin, we are very excited about how long we spend there.
Thanks again 😀😀😀👍
Portage the gear up those slopes looks hard! Good job.
Yeah, it’s just to hard in the middle season, when the snow is dissappearing. Happy that we now have gotten rid of them! (now couple of days later when I responded to the comment)
